Fences
‘t Achterhuis has a changing collection of beautiful decorative fences for sale. A part of this is unrestored, another part is fully restored and varnished. Sometimes adaptations to a fence can be discussed. We can also introduce you to someone who can install the gate and possibly make it electric. For example, it often happens that we make an adjustment to the attachment to poles or gates. Whether or not antique fences are available in many types and sizes, which vary:
- material: mostly wrought iron or cast iron
- shape: straight or curved/round
- decoration: from no ornaments to very beautiful ornaments
- finishing: sandblasted, scraped, primed, lacquered
Wrought iron or cast iron fencing
The difference between a wrought iron fence and a cast iron fence is reflected in the strength, weight, degree of detail and price. As the name suggests, a cast iron fence is cast in a mould and a wrought iron fence forged with hammer and anvil. The forging process makes a fence stronger, somewhat heavier and often more expensive due to the intensive work of the blacksmith. However, it is less easy to process small details. Highly detailed decorative fences, such as a more brocante fence, are therefore usually cast iron fences.
