Antique lamp or old chandelier
With the right antique lamp it is possible to provide any room with just that little extra atmosphere, both turned on by the light effects and turned off by the beautiful design. A typical antique lamp is of course the chandelier, also called chandelier. In the next paragraph you can read more about the assortment and origin. Besides chandeliers, ‘t Achterhuis also has several other old-fashioned lights. These are not only really old lamps, but also new lamps with an old, vintage look. The range of lighting consists mainly of chandeliers, twilight lamps, hanging lamps, wall lamps and floor lamps.
Crystal chandelier or chandelier with candles
Chandeliers have been used for centuries for lighting purposes. This started in the Middle Ages by a chandelier with candles. This was nothing but a wooden cross with nails on which candles could be attached. This classic chandelier hung from a rope or chain on the ceiling. At one point people started to decorate it, in the form of jewelry, or crystal jewelry. In the fifteenth century Italy developed as a producer and supplier of various types of crystal. Italian chandeliers and even more specifically the Venetian chandeliers are still very popular. At the beginning of the 18th century, cast forms of gilded bronze with long, curved arms were created. A century later, chandeliers with gas lighting made their appearance, which were succeeded at the end of the 19th century by chandeliers that operated on electricity. Crystal chandeliers are used in various rooms. Especially large chandeliers are widely used in the hall or large reception area.
From antique twilight lamp to old pitcher lamp
The category antique lighting can be divided into three subcategories:
- hanging lamps
- wall lamps
- floor lamps
- table lamps
- outdoor lamps, including old lampposts
The classic chandeliers belong to the hanging lamps, but some types of lamps can also belong to several categories, such as the twilight lamp. For example, an antique twilight lamp can be used as a pitcher lamp. This is usually a table lamp made of old pitchers, pots or cement vases.
