A piece of advice when buying a door: always buy the door(s) first, then show them to your architect or contractor and ask him or her to design your house or room round this door/these doors. Do not let yourself be enticed into patining, painting or varnishing old doors. A roughly sanded or lye-treated oak door often has enough patina or charm and will fit perfectly in a modern or classical interior.
